As the approaching Secondary School Offer Day looms, parents now have the chance to utilize our latest tool for comparing the performance of any two schools. This significant day, on March 2nd, is a source of anxiety for Year Six students and their families nationwide as they await news of their secondary school placements.
While the majority of students secure their first-choice school, not everyone is as fortunate. Last year, 84% received their top preference, with an additional 12% being allocated one of their other favored schools. This left 4% with a school that was not listed as one of their preferred choices.
Our new tool allows you to analyze the performance metrics of any two schools side by side. If you find yourself offered a school outside of your preferences, you can now easily compare their performance data.
This gadget utilizes official government data on pupil performance, including Attainment 8 scores dating back to 2015. It also evaluates students’ achievements in obtaining A-C grades in English and Maths, English Baccalaureate performance, and historical Progress 8 scores. For more in-depth insights into a specific school’s performance, you can choose to explore further details.
According to the Department of Education, Attainment 8 is a metric that assesses students’ performance at the end of key stage 4, typically at 16 years of age. The 8 subjects considered in Attainment 8 are assigned point scores ranging from 1 (lowest) to 9 (highest). A pupil’s Attainment 8 score is calculated by summing the points for their 8 subjects, with math scores counted twice and English scores counted twice if both English literature and English language are taken.
Attainment 8 scores are rounded to one decimal place.
