An inmate who allegedly attacked Ian Huntley is facing a decade of solitary confinement after reportedly causing severe head injuries to the notorious Soham killer. The assault took place in HMP Frankland in Durham, where Huntley was left injured and covered in blood after being struck with a metal bar.
Following the attack, the 52-year-old Huntley was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with a slim chance of survival. Although the police have not officially named the assailant, it is believed to be Anthony Russell, a convicted triple murderer.
A prison insider revealed that the suspect is expected to be segregated from other prisoners for an extended period, emphasizing the seriousness of the assault. Durham Constabulary confirmed that Huntley remains hospitalized in a serious condition.
Huntley, serving a life sentence for the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002, has faced multiple attacks and suicide attempts during his incarceration. Reports suggest that he avoided prison meals due to fears of poisoning and instead consumed snacks purchased from the prison shop.
Despite his notoriety, Huntley has been involved in various incidents while behind bars, including weight gain from a diet heavy in snack foods. These actions have led to heightened security measures and his confinement in a segregation unit for the foreseeable future.
