“Pentagon Warns of 6-Month Task to Clear Hormuz Mines”

Date:

The Pentagon has informed the US Congress that it could take up to six months to completely clear the Strait of Hormuz from Iranian military mines. However, this task is unlikely to commence until the conflict subsides, as reported by the Washington Post. Recent social media posts suggest that Iran may be laying additional mines in the area.

Several social media users have shared satellite images allegedly showing Iranian gunboats moving towards Iranian coastlines after departing from the middle of the Strait of Hormuz, where they are suspected of laying mines. The authenticity of these images has not been independently confirmed by the Mirror.

Expressing concern, another user speculated, “If I was a betting man, I’d say the IRGC is laying mines in the middle of the Hormuz transit channel today with dozens and dozens of speedboats.”

The conflict between the US and Iran has escalated tensions in the region, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz. Joint strikes on key Iranian sites by the US and Israel since February 28 prompted Iran to retaliate by blocking the trade route, crucial for 20% of global oil trade.

In response, the US has enforced a blockade on Iranian ports within the Strait of Hormuz to impact the Iranian economy, urging the reopening of the trade route through negotiations.

Accusations have been made against Iran for placing mines in the strait, endangering ship navigation and disrupting global economic activities.
