“UK Braces for March Blizzard: Snow to Hit Major Cities”

Date:

The UK is set to experience a return of snow in the coming days, with significant accumulations expected in various regions.

Recent weather forecasts indicate a surprise March blizzard heading towards Britain, targeting major cities. The GFS weather model suggests that snowfall will begin in Northern Ireland, Wales, northern England, and Scotland around 9pm on March 16.

The most intense snow showers are anticipated in the north-west of England and Scotland. Cities such as Belfast, Glasgow, Newcastle, and Edinburgh are likely to witness snowfall during this period.

The snowfall is expected to persist for several hours, while heavy rain is predicted for southern parts of the country. By midnight, snow is forecasted over the Pennines and in the north-east of England.

Although the snow showers are expected to weaken by 9am, there is a possibility of snow affecting Manchester. Northern Ireland and Scotland are also likely to experience further snow during this period, as indicated by the weather maps.

Snow coverage maps suggest that by 6am on March 17, all of Northern Ireland and Scotland will have snow cover. Most parts of northern England and Wales are also expected to be covered, with a chance of snow reaching the Midlands.

Data indicates that hill areas in Scotland could see up to 27cm (11 inches) of snow accumulation. Northern England might experience around 4cm (1.5 inches) of snow, while other areas are likely to have lesser accumulations ranging from 1cm to 2cm.

The Met Office also suggests the possibility of snowfall later this month, mainly confined to hills in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The forecast for March 7 to March 16 indicates that while most regions will experience dry weather with occasional sunshine, the north and west of the UK may face frontal systems bringing rain, winds, and potential hill snow in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
