A tragic incident occurred on the Carnival Firenze cruise ship as a woman fell from her balcony near Catalina Island, around 22 miles off the coast of Southern California. The passenger landed on a deck below and unfortunately passed away. The woman, who was traveling with her family, fell on a Monday morning. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed yet.
Carnival Cruise Line confirmed the incident and stated that all necessary authorities have been notified. Law enforcement will conduct an investigation on the ship at Catalina Island. The circumstances surrounding the fall are still unclear, and the cruise line’s Care Team is providing support to the family of the deceased.
The Carnival Firenze had departed from Long Beach, Los Angeles, and visited Catalina Island before heading towards its next destination, Ensenada, with an expected return to LA on April 30. This Vista-class vessel is massive, measuring 1,061 feet in length, with a capacity to accommodate 4,126 passengers and 1,425 crew members.
In a separate incident, a man fell overboard from a Norwegian Cruise Line ship off the coast of Massachusetts while sailing from Bermuda to Boston. Security footage from the Norwegian Breakaway captured the crew member falling into the water about 12 miles off Wellfleet. The search for the missing man was halted on Sunday afternoon as efforts were unsuccessful.
