A man carrying a suspected weapon prompted a pre-school to go into lockdown in Newcastle. Police arrested the man on suspicion of affray, and he is currently in custody. The incident occurred outside Little Learners NE pre-school at The Blakelaw Centre.

Northumbria Police received a report of suspicious activity at Binswood Avenue in Newcastle around 9 am on Tuesday. The male individual was believed to have a suspected weapon. The 33-year-old man was swiftly apprehended by officers for affray.
The pre-school voluntarily went into lockdown as a precautionary measure, although no direct threats were made to the children, and the suspect did not attempt to enter the children’s area. Authorities remained in the vicinity for several hours to reassure the public.
