Infamous Soham Killer Ian Huntley Dies in Prison Attack

Date:

Ian Huntley, the infamous Soham double murderer, passed away at the age of 52 after being brutally attacked in HMP Frankland. Huntley had been serving a life sentence for the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman when he was assaulted with a makeshift weapon, resulting in severe head injuries. Prior to the attack, Huntley had expressed concerns about his safety in a letter to a woman he had been corresponding with since October 2025. In the letter, Huntley indicated that he needed to sever ties with the woman for her own safety, mentioning that he had to discard items she had sent him and refrain from allowing her to visit or call him.

This was not the first time Huntley had faced threats while in prison. Previously, he had survived various attempts on his life, including an attack in 2010 by another inmate who slashed his throat, requiring 21 stitches. Huntley had also been attacked in 2005 with boiling water and had attempted suicide twice before.

In his final letter, Huntley reflected on his decision to cut ties with the woman, emphasizing that he had carefully considered it and believed it was the best course of action. Just days after sending this letter, Huntley was viciously attacked by another inmate, Anthony Russell, who reportedly struck him multiple times with a weapon.

The tragic end to Huntley’s life highlights the dangers faced by high-profile prisoners in the prison system, where violence and conflicts can have fatal consequences.
