At least 13 cities in the United Kingdom are expected to see snowfall during a 471-mile blizzard this week, according to weather forecasters. The Mirror has revealed the list of these cities, indicating that most of the UK will have cold enough temperatures for snow starting Friday. Friday is anticipated to be the day with the highest likelihood of snow, with the Northwest of England facing the harshest weather conditions.
Weather maps from WXCharts illustrate that areas from Wick in Scotland to Manchester will be blanketed with snow during the peak of the blizzard. Several Scottish regions, including Wick, Inverness, Fort William, Aberdeen, Dundee, and Glasgow, are predicted to experience snow showers as indicated by the maps.
As the cold weather spreads across the country, numerous areas in England are expected to endure freezing temperatures. The maps suggest that regions near Dundee in Scotland could see up to 39cm (15 inches) of snow.
The Met Office’s long-range forecast from March 14 to 23 describes the period as mostly changeable, with Atlantic frontal systems bringing rain, showers, and strong winds, particularly in the west or northwest. The forecast also hints at some drier intervals with possible frost and hill snow during shorter colder periods.
According to The Express, temperatures are set to drop with a bitter westerly wind making it feel as cold as -7°C in the upcoming week. Jason Kelly, Chief Operational Meteorologist for the Met Office, mentioned that a shift in wind direction to a north-westerly flow will result in significantly colder conditions nationwide on Friday, potentially bringing sunny spells, heavy showers, coastal gales, and snow over high ground.
