“Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Park Assault in Brighton”

Date:

A man enticed a woman to a well-known park in the city center where he proceeded to assault her.

Alieu George, aged 46, was convicted of sexual assault and rape in a trial last December after attacking a 35-year-old woman in Dorset Gardens, Brighton. The victim had encountered George after going for drinks in June the previous year and was subsequently sexually assaulted in a secluded location.

According to Sussex Police, the woman was led to Dorset Gardens by George where the assault took place. George was apprehended on June 22 after being seen in the park with the distressed woman.

George has now been sentenced to 12 years in prison at Brighton Crown Court. Detective Constable Daisy Alden, the investigating officer, commended the victim for her courage and resolve during the investigation. Alden stated, “Alieu George targeted the victim and poses a significant threat to women. With his incarceration, the streets of Brighton and Sussex are now safer.”

Sussex Police emphasized their commitment to combating male violence against women and encouraged victims of sexual offenses to report incidents promptly either online or by calling 101, or in emergencies, dialing 999.

A statement issued by Sussex Police announced the imprisonment of Alieu George, 46, for 12 years for the rape of a woman in Dorset Gardens, Brighton. The court testimonies revealed that members of the public had witnessed a distressing incident involving George and the woman in the park on June 22, 2025.

Three witnesses raised the alarm upon noticing the woman’s distress, leading to the police responding to the scene where they found the victim upset with George lying beside her. George claimed that the woman was his girlfriend.

The victim informed the police that she had been out for drinks when George approached her, isolating her from her group and subsequently sexually assaulting her. Following the assault, George was taken into custody on suspicion of rape and later charged with the offense.

After being found guilty, George was remanded in custody and later sentenced to 15 years in prison, with 12 years to be served in custody and an additional three years on supervised release. An indefinite restraining order was also issued against him.
