“British Airways Introduces Stricter Rules on In-Flight Photography”

Date:

British Airways has implemented stricter regulations regarding passenger behavior that could lead to their removal from the plane.

With the rise of influencers and content creators, the use of smartphones on flights has become more common, as many individuals choose to document their journey through photos or videos. Even regular holidaymakers often capture their onboard experience.

Although seemingly harmless, filming or taking photos on a flight without consent can have serious consequences for travelers, regardless of whether they are content creators. British Airways has updated its policies for passengers on board, introducing more stringent guidelines on photography and videography.

Under section 11a of the ‘behavior on the aircraft’ conditions, British Airways stated that if passengers are believed to have filmed, live-streamed, or taken photos of the crew or colleagues without consent, the airline reserves the right to take appropriate measures to stop such behavior.

Non-compliance with these rules could result in passengers being asked to leave the aircraft upon landing or being denied travel on subsequent segments of their journey. Furthermore, such incidents may be reported to authorities for potential prosecution of any criminal offenses committed.

British Airways also highlighted that if unacceptable behavior leads to flight diversion and a passenger’s removal, the individual will be liable for the reasonable costs incurred by the airline due to the diversion.

However, passengers are still allowed to take photos onboard, such as of their seat, the view outside the window, cabin amenities, meals, and personal highlights, as long as they do not film cabin crew members without their consent.

The same rule applies to taking photos or videos of other passengers without their permission. By being mindful of their surroundings and what they capture, travelers can still document their journey for social media or personal purposes.

British Airways is not the only airline enforcing such rules; Ryanair, for instance, explicitly prohibits recording or photographing its personnel without consent in its terms and conditions, allowing only personal recordings or photos.
