An investigation into a homicide has been initiated following the discovery of a deceased man inside the former TGI Fridays establishment in Sheffield. Two women, aged 35 and 54, were apprehended on suspicion of murder after South Yorkshire Police responded to reports of unusual activities at the abandoned premises. The deceased, a 55-year-old male, has not been officially identified yet, but his family has been informed and is being supported by authorities. A cordon surrounding the building will remain in place until the evening of June 12.
DCI Laura Procter, the Senior Investigating Officer, stated that inquiries have been ongoing since the discovery of the deceased man to understand the circumstances leading to the incident. She urged individuals who may have witnessed any suspicious behavior around the TGI Fridays building in the days before the incident to come forward with any information.
Authorities continue to work diligently to uncover details, including the arrest of the two women who are currently in custody for questioning. Individuals with relevant details are encouraged to contact 101 or submit information online, referencing incident number 897 of June 10. TGI Fridays has distanced itself from the property, clarifying that the Sheffield Road site ceased operations in January 2026 and is no longer under the ownership of the company or any affiliated entity.
The Sheffield branch was one of the 16 UK restaurants that closed due to the UK operator of TGI Fridays entering administration.
