“UK Braces for Heavy Snow as Met Office Issues Warning”

Date:

Britons are bracing for heavy snowfall exceeding 15cm in a chilling -3C Arctic surge as the Met Office issues a warning. The United Kingdom has endured relentless downpours and fierce winds, with temperatures plummeting due to low-pressure systems moving in from the northwest.

The most severe impact of the wintry weather is expected in northern regions, particularly in the west of Scotland where weather maps indicate 17cm of snowfall on Friday. Additionally, snow showers are forecasted in the northwest of England and Wales.

A snow and ice warning has been issued by the Met Office for central Scotland, effective from midnight until 9am on Friday. The agency forecasts blustery wintry showers affecting central and northwest Scotland, with snow accumulation of 2-5 cm expected widely and up to 10 cm in higher areas above 350 meters.

Residents in the alerted areas are advised to anticipate potential traffic disruptions and prepare by carrying essential items in their vehicles. The Met Office emphasizes the need for caution during wintry conditions, urging individuals to plan routes carefully, allow extra travel time, check for road closures or public transport delays, and carry necessary supplies in case of delays.

Overnight forecasts include heavy rain moving southeast across England and Wales, with clear spells and wintry showers elsewhere. Persistent rain and snow are expected over Scottish high ground, along with patchy frost and ice. The weather is projected to remain cold and windy on Friday, with a mix of sunshine and blustery showers, potentially leading to more persistent rain and snow in some areas, predominantly over northern hills.

The cold spell is anticipated to linger through the weekend before temperatures start rising in the following week. Looking ahead to March 17-26, the Met Office suggests a transition to more settled weather across most of the UK, with initial wet and windy conditions likely in the northwest. However, a shift to settled conditions is expected by midweek, with predominantly dry weather nationwide. Although the possibility of overnight frost and fog exists, pleasant spring sunshine is forecasted away from windy coastal areas.

Uncertainty remains regarding the duration of the settled conditions, with indications of potential showers or rain returning later in the period, possibly affecting southern regions more significantly.
