“Machete Crimes on the Rise Despite Ban”

Date:

A surge in criminal activities involving machetes continues despite the ban on these weapons, according to police records. Criminals, armed with hunting knives, are causing chaos and fear on the streets through nearly 900 machete-related crimes each month, including robberies, brutal assaults, sexual offenses, and domestic violence.

Individuals often carry these deadly weapons concealed in their clothing while roaming the streets. Concerns over the dangers posed by machetes prompted the government to prohibit their possession in the summer of 2024, offering an amnesty program for people to surrender their knives in exchange for compensation.

Incidents involving machetes have resulted in tragic outcomes, such as the murder of individuals like Mikey Roynon, Shawn Seesahai, and Kelyan Bokassa. These cases highlight the brutal nature of machete attacks and the devastating consequences they bring.

Recent police data from England and Wales reveal a concerning trend with 1,697 machete-related crimes reported in the last two months of 2025. The actual numbers could be higher as some police forces did not participate in the survey.

The use of machetes extends beyond violent crimes to include drug offenses, blackmail, and thefts. Various regions have reported incidents involving machetes, from threatening videos sent to individuals to domestic violence cases and armed robberies.

To address the proliferation of these weapons, experts advocate for stricter regulations on online sales of knives and the implementation of a comprehensive licensing system for knife retailers. Authorities are committed to reducing knife crime and have taken steps to remove knives from circulation and enhance detection technology.

Efforts are being made to combat the illegal sale of knives online and prevent further tragedies. The ban on zombie-style knives and swords, along with ongoing law enforcement initiatives, aims to make communities safer and reduce the incidence of knife-related crimes.
