A young man, Zulkernain Ahmed, has been sentenced to life in prison for using his Audi as a weapon in a tragic incident that led to the death of a 16-year-old boy named Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Taleb. The court in Sheffield heard that Ahmed intentionally targeted a group of e-bike riders, with Abdullah becoming an unintended victim of the attack. Ahmed will have to serve a minimum of 30 years before being eligible for parole.
Accompanying Ahmed in the car was his brother, Armaan Ahmed, who received a 17-year sentence, including an additional two years for manslaughter due to aggravating circumstances. Abdullah, who had recently arrived in England from Yemen, was walking along a pavement when he was struck by the Audi that had mounted a kerb on Staniforth Road.
In a heartbreaking statement read in court, Abdullah’s father, Yaser Abdullah Al Yazidi, described the impact of losing his son, highlighting the family’s struggles. Abdullah, described as an optimistic and community-oriented individual, was looking forward to starting college in September 2025 but tragically lost his life in the incident.
Prosecutors revealed that Zulkernain Ahmed had been seeking revenge against one of the e-bike riders, La’Rome Divers, resulting in the fatal collision. Despite a psychologist’s report indicating mental health issues affecting Ahmed, the court held him accountable for his actions. In a letter of apology, Ahmed expressed deep remorse and a desire to make amends, stating that he prays for Abdullah’s family every day.
Furthermore, Ahmed mentioned that he has taken steps to learn CPR and chest compressions during his time in prison, hoping to contribute positively in the future. The court proceedings shed light on the tragic consequences of the deliberate attack that took the life of a promising young individual and left a lasting impact on his family and community.
