“Expert Warns of Absolute Extinction Without Fossil Fuel Cuts”

Date:

A meteorology expert has issued a stark warning that humans are on the brink of “absolute extinction” unless there is a significant reduction in the use of fossil fuels.

British Weather Services’ Jim Dale cautioned that failure to address climate change would lead to a dire future for our children and future generations, ultimately resulting in the gradual collapse of ecosystems from the smallest creatures to the tallest plants.

This warning follows a report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) indicating that the global climate is more imbalanced than ever before. The continuous rise in greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere has been driving climate change, with 2025 ranking among the top three hottest years on record, according to UN experts.

Last year saw the global average temperature surpassing 1.43C above the pre-industrial average of 1850-1990, edging closer to the critical threshold of 1.5C. Exceeding this threshold could trigger increasingly severe climate impacts.

Jim Dale emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting the world’s energy imbalance and record-high temperatures, particularly in ocean temperatures. He underscored that the current trajectory could lead to the extinction of the human race if left unchecked.

The previous year was marked by extreme heatwaves, wildfires, hurricanes, floods, and heavy rainfall events, according to the WMO. Notably, the UK faced an unprecedented number of summer wildfires in 2025, while popular tourist destinations like Greece and Turkey had to close airports due to uncontrollable wildfires.

The 2025 hurricane season witnessed three Category 5 storms, including Hurricane Melissa causing significant destruction in Jamaica and Cuba. Additionally, severe flooding in India, Pakistan, and China displaced thousands of people and resulted in substantial loss of life.

Forecasts suggest that there may be a peak in ‘El Nino’ this year, leading to a potential surge in global temperatures and making 2027 a record-breaking year in terms of warmth.

Jim Dale raised concerns about the impact of El Nino on global temperatures, emphasizing the need for immediate action to mitigate the escalating climate crisis. He warned that without significant changes, the world could face catastrophic consequences, surpassing the current level of environmental challenges.

The UN secretary-general declared a “state of emergency” for the global climate, noting that key climate indicators are signaling a critical situation. The report confirmed that the past decade from 2015 to 2025 was the hottest on record, with greenhouse gas concentrations reaching unprecedented levels.

The surge in greenhouse gas emissions, primarily driven by fossil fuel usage, has pushed the planet beyond sustainable limits. Addressing this challenge would require a monumental societal shift away from fossil fuels, as highlighted by meteorology expert Jim Dale.

Dale emphasized the need for urgent action to prevent a bleak future for future generations, drawing parallels to dragging the Titanic from the seabed. He emphasized that failure to act decisively could lead to unprecedented catastroph
