An Air Canada flight attendant miraculously survived a fatal crash at LaGuardia Airport in New York, thanks to her seating location inside the aircraft. Solange Tremblay, the flight attendant, was flung more than 109 yards when her seat was ejected from the plane during the incident. She sustained multiple fractures and is scheduled for surgery to address a broken leg.
Despite the ordeal, Solange is reported to be in stable condition, according to her daughter Sarah Lepine. Sarah expressed gratitude, calling her mother’s survival a “complete miracle,” highlighting how her seat was thrown a considerable distance from the plane upon impact.
In an interview with TV Nouvelles, Sarah mentioned that Solange was found still strapped into her seat, emphasizing that it was a stroke of luck that she survived. Notably, Solange was seated behind the pilot during the crash, where tragically both the pilot and co-pilot lost their lives.
The pilot, Antoine Forest, 30, from Quebec, and co-pilot Mackenzie Gunther were identified as the deceased crew members. The crash led to around 40 individuals needing medical attention at a local hospital, with the airport closure until the following afternoon for investigative purposes.
Jason Ambrosi, the president of the Air Lines Pilots Association, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the crew members and extended condolences to their families and colleagues. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also conveyed his sadness regarding the collision. Reports suggested that air controllers attempted to redirect incoming traffic in the aftermath of the incident.
Audio recordings post-crash revealed air controllers discussing the tragic event, with expressions of grief and acknowledgment of the emergency situation’s challenges. The incident left a somber atmosphere as the aviation community mourned the loss of the crew members and reflected on the impact of the crash.
