A man on an electric dirt bike was targeted by a gang who fired from a car, according to police reports. The incident occurred on Bowland Drive in Liverpool, with gunshots heard on Fulwood Way. The suspects fled the scene but were later apprehended after a brief chase that resulted in a collision with a police car on Melling Road in Aintree. The suspects were captured on Epsom Close as they attempted to escape on foot. Four men, aged 33, 42, 21, and 23, all from Liverpool, were arrested on multiple charges, including possession of a firearm with intent, failure to stop a vehicle, and reckless driving. They are currently in police custody, and no injuries have been reported. Authorities are still searching for the rider involved in the incident.
During a subsequent search of the area, two loaded firearms were found hidden in bushes with the help of a police dog. The weapons were confirmed to be functional. Police mentioned that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to locate the intended target.
Melling Road was reopened by police on Monday evening, while a section of the canal path near Aintree Lane remained closed the following morning, guarded by officers. Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot near Rimrose Valley Country Park and observed a black vehicle, potentially a Range Rover, in the area. Detective Sergeant Leighanne Davies expressed dismay over the incident, emphasizing the dangers of street shootings and the disregard for public safety by those involved in organized crime.
Despite the arrests made, police are appealing for more information from the public. Anyone with details on the incident is urged to contact Merseyside Police via social media, phone, or the police website, quoting the incident reference number.
