“Prince Charles Becomes Patron of Charity Safeguarding British Jews”

Date:

Prince Charles has agreed to be the patron of a charity dedicated to safeguarding British Jews against terrorism and antisemitism following an attack on Jewish charity ambulances. The Community Security Trust (CST), an organization that monitors antisemitism and provides protection for Jewish communities in the UK, revealed that Prince Charles has accepted the role.

This development follows an incident in Golders Green, north-west London, where four Jewish community ambulances were set on fire and destroyed. The Metropolitan Police is investigating potential links to an Islamist group with ties to Iran regarding the arson.

The CST, with over 2,000 volunteers, offers security guidance and resources to Jewish schools, organizations, and synagogues. Lord Finkelstein, a Conservative peer, disclosed Prince Charles’s new patronage during the charity’s annual fundraising dinner, which coincided with the attack on the Jewish community ambulance service, Hatzola.

The charity clarified that the patronage was part of a routine review of royal patronages and had been in progress for some time, rather than being a direct response to the events in Golders Green. The announcement was strategically timed to coincide with the annual dinner, attended by prominent figures such as Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood and Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley.

Expressing their gratitude, the charity stated, “His Majesty’s longstanding commitment to promoting tolerance, inclusion, and interfaith understanding closely aligns with CST’s mission to protect British Jews.” The organization looks forward to collaborating under Prince Charles’s patronage to advance its crucial work nationwide.

Prince Charles has a history of supporting the Jewish community and is also the patron of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust. Last year, he participated in poignant events in Poland commemorating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, a former Nazi concentration camp.

Furthermore, following an attack on the Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, Prince Charles visited to meet with congregation members and senior figures from the synagogue, including Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis.

Recent official statistics on hate crimes in England and Wales revealed that Jewish individuals experienced the highest rate of religious hate crimes compared to other faith groups. In the year leading up to March 2025, there were 106 religious hate crimes per 10,000 population targeting Jewish people, according to data from the Home Office.

Additionally, figures released by the CST for the year 2025 indicated the second-highest annual total of anti-Jewish hate incidents recorded, with a 4% increase from the previous year, totaling 3,700 incidents.
