The Duke and Duchess of Sussex may not have an opportunity to reunite with the Prince and Princess of Wales during a potential visit to the UK this summer, according to sources within the royal family. Prince Harry is reportedly hoping for an invitation from the King to spend quality time with his family at Norfolk, where the royal couple resides.
Despite speculation, the Duchess of Sussex has not returned to the UK since September 2022, when they attended Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, have not visited since the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June of the same year. Sources close to Prince Harry expressed his openness to an invitation to Sandringham, the King’s estate, shared by the Prince and Princess of Wales at Anmer Hall.
However, sources linked to the Prince and Princess of Wales have indicated that their stance toward the Sussexes remains unchanged. They clarified that any potential meeting would likely only occur at an official public event, should the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attend. A friend of Harry’s shared that if invited by the King, security arrangements would automatically be provided, and Harry would appreciate the opportunity to spend time with the family at Sandringham.
Following their recent interactions, it was emphasized that Harry values time with his father and looks forward to more opportunities for family reunions. Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan are preparing for a visit to Australia next month, where they will engage in various commercial and charitable activities. Notably, Meghan is scheduled to participate in a women-only event, including an on-stage interview and group photo sessions with attendees.
As anticipation builds for their Australian tour, concerns have arisen regarding security funding, leading to a petition with nearly 40,000 signatures requesting that taxpayers’ money not be used for their security or trip expenses. In response, the Sussexes’ spokesperson confirmed that the trip is privately financed.
Recent surveys have shown a decline in the popularity of the Sussexes, particularly with Meghan Markle receiving a low approval rating among British individuals. The couple’s decision to step back from royal duties in 2020 has led to strained relationships within the royal family. Despite these challenges, Harry is scheduled to visit the UK in July for specific engagements related to the Invictus Games and support for the WellChild charity.
Harry’s return to the UK has been hindered in the past by security concerns, following the loss of publicly funded security privileges upon resigning from royal responsibilities. Efforts to reinstate security support have been ongoing, with Harry emphasizing the importance of safety for his family during visits. Notably, his children, Archie and Lilibet, have not seen their grandfather, the King, in four years.
Recent interactions between Harry and his father, the Prince of Wales, have been limited, with their last meeting occurring in September 2021. Following legal disputes and personal challenges, Harry has expressed a desire for reconciliation with his family, despite the existing tensions and differences.
