“Guildford’s Vibrant Peacock, Pete, Enchants Locals”

Date:

In a tranquil residential area, a bold peacock has taken up residence, strutting through the gardens of homeowners and making appearances at windows in search of food. Known as Pete to the locals, this vibrant bird made his grand entrance six months ago in Guildford, Surrey, leaving residents puzzled as to his origins despite efforts to identify his home.

Jim Andy, 79, recounted the surprise of finding Pete on the patio, attempting to offer him sustenance with uncertainty about the appropriate peacock diet. Concerns arose about Pete’s safety near the A3 highway due to his frequent garden-hopping and window-tapping routine.

Pete, exhibiting a penchant for unconventional treats like ice cream wafers, has garnered affection from the community, leading to the formation of a WhatsApp group dubbed ‘Pete’s Pals’ to monitor his activities. Residents like Jenna Mackay, 36, share amusing encounters with Pete, noting his regular visits and curious demeanor.

Despite some challenges, such as Pete’s penchant for digging in plant boxes, residents like Trish Tye, 60, enjoy the peacock’s visits, providing various snacks to satisfy his diverse appetite. Martin Dowland, a long-time resident, appreciates Pete’s affinity for his herb plants, though he expresses concerns about the peacock’s safety in the area.

While some residents express mixed feelings about Pete’s presence, many have developed a soft spot for the charming bird, hoping he finds a safe and suitable home away from potential dangers.
