“Britons Urged to Prepare as Storm Dave Brings Heavy Snow and Strong Winds”

Date:

Britons are advised to prepare essential items as heavy snow is expected over the Easter weekend. The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for wind and snow as Storm Dave moves in from the Atlantic.

Wind gusts of up to 90mph are anticipated during the Easter weekend, with two alerts issued by the national agency for northern regions of the UK. Additional warnings have been issued for snow in Scotland, where up to 20cm may accumulate, and in some areas, over 30cm is possible.

The Met Office cautions that there is a risk of “injuries and danger to life” from flying debris, with potential damage and travel disruptions in Scotland, northern England, North Wales, and Northern Ireland due to strong winds.

Forecasters predict gusts of 50-60mph across the warned areas from Saturday to Sunday, with stronger gusts of 80-90mph in exposed Scottish locations. Central and northern Scotland are under a snow warning for 12 hours from 3pm Saturday, with potential travel disruptions due to blizzard conditions.

It is recommended for those traveling in snow-affected areas to plan ahead and carry essential items in their vehicles. The advised items include warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper/de-icer, a warning triangle, high visibility vest, and an in-car phone charger.

Met Office’s Deputy Chief Forecaster, Tom Crabtree, stated that Storm Dave will intensify on Saturday, bringing strong winds and heavy snowfall to parts of Scotland. People are encouraged to secure their property against the upcoming weather and stay updated with the latest forecasts as warnings may be revised.
