A tragic car accident in Birmingham has claimed the life of a nine-year-old girl, with two other children and a woman hospitalized. Two men have been apprehended on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs.
The incident occurred on Icknield Street in Hockley around 11 pm on Thursday, April 2. The West Midlands Police responded to the crash involving two vehicles, where the young girl sustained severe injuries and later passed away at the hospital.
The current conditions of the other children and the woman involved in the same car have not been disclosed by the authorities. The vehicles, a Hyundai and a BMW, sustained significant damage near a railway bridge.
Law enforcement closed the road for 10 hours for investigation purposes, with forensic officers, a police dog handler, and a drone team on-site near the Jewellery Quarter. Eyewitnesses described one car ending up on a pavement by a railway bridge wall, while another badly damaged vehicle remained in the middle of Icknield Street.
Local residents expressed shock and sorrow over the tragic incident, with one individual emphasizing the rarity of fatal accidents in the area in recent years. The West Midlands Police are urging anyone with information or footage of the crash to come forward for assistance in the ongoing investigation.
