A woman was apprehended with a substantial amount of illicit substances concealed in her body as she tried to sneak them into a well-known music festival in the UK. Nicole France, aged 53, was caught attempting to bring ketamine and ecstasy into the Creamfields festival in Daresbury, Cheshire, but was detected by a police sniffer dog. She confessed to the offense after being stopped at the festival entrance.
France was found with drugs valued at nearly £2,500 hidden on her person. She informed authorities that she had received a complimentary ticket to the festival and had agreed to transport illegal drugs as per her dealer’s instructions. Despite traveling over 220 miles from her Surrey residence, she claimed the dealer coerced her into the act.
Appearing in court at Chester Crown Court in December, France admitted to possessing Class A and Class B drugs with the intent to distribute, as reported by Manchester Evening News. Although she initially pleaded against a jail term, citing her young son at home, she was eventually sentenced to 30 months in prison. The defense argued that the original sentence did not sufficiently consider her personal hardships and the impact on her son.
Following an appeal, France’s prison sentence was reduced by more than a quarter after concerns were raised about the disproportionate hardship it posed to her and her son. The appeal court judges acknowledged the need for punishment but emphasized the importance of considering her personal circumstances. Consequently, her sentence was reduced from 30 to 22 months in jail.
