UK Set to Sizzle with Mini-Heatwave Forecast

Date:

Newly released weather maps indicate that the UK is on the brink of experiencing another period of unseasonably warm weather, described as a “mini-heatwave,” with temperatures expected to soar to 21C for several consecutive days.

Forecasts suggest that the pleasant weather will make a comeback later this month, as data from Metdesk reveals a rise in temperatures and a prolonged dry spell across many parts of the country. The Southeast of England is anticipated to enjoy the highest temperatures starting from Sunday, April 19.

The latest maps, based on information from Metdesk and published by WXCharts, highlight areas such as Greater London, Essex, Kent, Surrey, and Hampshire as the “driest and sunniest,” with other regions of England also expected to reach temperatures of around 19C, particularly in the Midlands and the Southwest.

Recent temperature readings include 23.4C in Frittenden, Kent, and a high of 26.5C in Kew, west London, marking the warmest day of the year so far.

However, according to reports from the Express, temperatures are expected to drop before the anticipated “mini-heatwave” arrives later in the month. By the weekend, temperatures could plummet to as low as 5C in northern England and Scotland, a stark contrast to the recent warmth.

The upcoming change in weather patterns is predicted to bring warm conditions to parts of southern England, particularly the South East, where temperatures could reach highs of 21C. The Met Office outlook for the period spanning April 14-23 suggests varying conditions initially, with showers and rain likely in some areas, before a shift to drier and more settled weather, especially in the north and east.

Wednesday saw the warmest April day in six years, attributed to warmer air from the continent moving in as Storm Dave receded. A spokesperson from the Met Office highlighted the rapid changes typical of this time of year.

Interestingly, other forecasts had suggested a potential cold spell with snowfall earlier this week. Models show the likelihood of heavy snow in parts of Scotland overnight into Saturday, with flurries possibly extending into northern England over the weekend.
