An individual who sexually abused four children, causing immense suffering to one victim, has passed away while serving a prison sentence. David Almond, aged 80, succumbed to brain cancer in a hospice on September 14, 2024, while incarcerated at HMP Liverpool for committing sexual offenses. Almond, a resident of Greasby, Wirral, received a 12-year prison term on February 21, 2020, for perpetrating sexual crimes against four individuals under the age of 14 during the 1980s and 1990s, alongside a lifetime Sex Offenders Order.
Reports indicate that Almond inflicted severe emotional and physical damage on one of the victims, leaving them in a state of profound distress. The perpetrator’s actions included sexually assaulting three girls and one boy. Following his arrest in 2017, Almond faced charges of eight counts of indecent assault and four counts of indecency with a child. Despite denying any wrongdoing, he was ultimately found guilty after a trial.
A statement delivered to the court by one of the female victims highlighted the lasting impact of Almond’s abuse, describing how he robbed her of her childhood innocence and caused enduring psychological harm. The victim expressed ongoing struggles with depression, anxiety, self-hatred, and post-traumatic stress disorder stemming from the traumatic experiences inflicted by Almond. Despite attempts to cope and heal, the victim emphasized the persistent and haunting nature of the abuse, which continued to affect her daily life.
This tragic case serves as a reminder of the long-lasting consequences of such heinous acts on survivors and the importance of seeking justice for victims of sexual abuse.
