An accomplished ultra-marathon runner met a tragic end while taking on a demanding 234-mile challenge in the Highlands region. David Parrish, 35, was discovered deceased in a remote mountainous area of Kintail on Saturday evening. He was striving to set a new record for the fastest male completion of the Cape Wrath trail.
Initially planning to tackle the trail over the Easter weekend, David postponed his attempt due to unfavorable weather conditions before resuming the challenge last weekend. He had dedicated his journey to his late friend, Luke, who passed away during a mountain run 11 years ago.
Following his untimely demise, heartfelt tributes flooded in online, with friends expressing their deep sorrow and admiration for David’s remarkable achievements and positive spirit. David’s fundraising efforts were aimed at supporting Scottish Mountain Rescue and honoring his friend Luke Ireland, a Royal Marine who tragically perished while running in the mountains around Glen Clova.
Mr. Parrish had previously excelled in the Cape Wrath Trail race in 2023, securing the second fastest time for the event despite his relatively short competitive running career. The grueling trail, renowned as one of the UK’s toughest, traverses picturesque landscapes in Scotland, including Knoydart, Kintail, Torridon, Assynt, and Sutherland.
David, a member of the Dumfries Running Club and the 2022 club champion, transitioned to competitive running after leaving the armed forces. Running served as his outlet for decompressing from the rigors of military life. The police in Scotland have been contacted for further details.
The No Limits Photography team, who captured David in action during the 2023 Cape Wrath event, paid tribute to his infectious joy and inspirational presence in the ultra-marathon community. His legacy as a talented athlete and a beloved individual will be deeply cherished by all who knew him.
