The family of a university student who tragically passed away from multiple stab wounds have spoken out, describing him as a bright and unassuming young man with a promising future. Jamie Collins, 21, was discovered deceased in the garden of a residence on Cleve Road, Filton, Bristol, during the early hours of Thursday. His loved ones expressed that he was a gentle and kind individual who was eagerly anticipating completing his studies at the University of the West of England (UWE).
Scheduled to return home to Swansea in a few weeks, Collins was allegedly killed by his housemate, Zack Coughlan, 23, who was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. Coughlan has already appeared before Bristol Crown Court for the offense.
Collins’ family conveyed their deep sorrow, highlighting his potential for a successful career in engineering and robotics. They acknowledged the overwhelming support and love received from friends and the community during this difficult time, expressing gratitude for the kind messages as they mourn privately.
UWE acknowledged Collins as an active member of student societies and expressed profound shock over his untimely death. The university pledged support and assistance to those impacted by the tragedy.
Det Chief Insp Lucy Edgeworth from Avon and Somerset Police emphasized the shock and sadness felt by those who knew Jamie, assuring ongoing support for the affected individuals. Police presence in the area has been increased, with collaborative efforts with UWE to provide necessary support.
Further investigations in the vicinity of Cleve Road are planned in the following days. Coughlan is expected to appear at Bristol Crown Court on June 19, with a provisional trial date set for October 12.
