“Nigerian Man Extradited for London Trainee Engineer’s Murder”

Date:

A Nigerian man has been extradited and formally accused in connection with the 2018 killing of a 23-year-old trainee engineer in London. Matthew Adebiyi, 25, was brought to London and detained for the fatal stabbing of Joshua Boadu, known as SJ, which occurred in broad daylight on Linsey Street, Bermondsey, on June 11, 2018.

The victim sustained severe injuries to his chest, neck, and arm and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Joshua suffered a heart attack during transport, leading to the termination of life support ten days later. Adebiyi has been held in custody and was scheduled to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court following his extradition.

Notably, two individuals were previously found guilty of SJ’s murder, with a 27-year-old and a 16-year-old from Southwark receiving sentences at the Old Bailey in September 2019. In response to the convictions, SJ’s family expressed profound grief, emphasizing the irreplaceable loss they continue to endure since his passing.

Following the tragic incident, SJ’s father, Frank, described his son as a compassionate and promising individual with a bright future ahead. He highlighted the need to address the escalating violence in London and emphasized that SJ was not involved in any criminal activities. SJ, who was on the brink of embarking on a dream trip to Canada with his family, was known for his kind-hearted nature and passion for music among his circle of friends and loved ones.

In a poignant statement, SJ’s sister, Lady, called for an end to senseless acts of knife violence, echoing the sentiment shared by many who knew and cherished SJ for his positive attributes and vibrant personality. The community mourns the loss of a remarkable individual and stands united in advocating for peace and safety on the city’s streets.
