In the early hours of Sunday morning, a woman was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder following a car incident that struck pedestrians in central London.
According to the Metropolitan Police, a woman in her 30s is in critical condition, while a man in his 50s sustained life-altering injuries after being hit by a car on Argyll Street, Westminster, at approximately 4:30 am. Another woman in her 30s suffered minor injuries during the incident.
The 29-year-old female driver of the car was apprehended at the scene, facing allegations of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, and driving under the influence. She is currently detained by authorities.
Law enforcement officials have clarified that the event, which occurred on a Soho street near the London Palladium theatre, is not linked to terrorism.
Detective chief inspector Alison Foxwell has urged potential witnesses to step forward, emphasizing the importance of any information they may possess regarding the collision or preceding activities. Witnesses are encouraged to contact authorities at 101, citing reference number 1404/19APR.
Upon receiving reports of a car colliding with pedestrians on Argyll Street at around 4:30 am on Sunday, officers and the London Ambulance Service responded promptly. A woman in her 30s was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, while a man in his 50s suffered significant injuries. Another woman in her 30s received treatment for minor injuries.
The 29-year-old female driver involved in the incident was arrested on the spot for suspected attempted murder, GBH, dangerous driving, and driving under the influence. She is currently in police custody.
Authorities have confirmed that the incident is not considered to be related to terrorism.
