During a recent session in the House of Commons, Emily Thornberry used explicit language while Olly Robbins, a dismissed senior civil servant, was testifying about the vetting issue involving Peter Mandelson.
Sky News, which was airing the proceedings live, had to issue an apology to viewers following Thornberry’s use of an expletive.
The incident unfolded when Robbins was being questioned by Liberal Democrat Richard Foord, who mentioned a previous conversation with strong language regarding the situation. Thornberry then interjected, prompting a heated exchange of words.
Thornberry was heard expressing her frustration by saying, “Just f**king approve it.”
Robbins, addressing his predecessor Philip Barton, commented on the pressure and dismissive atmosphere he felt during the handover process.
A presenter on Sky News later apologized for any offense caused by the language used during the live coverage of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee hearing.
Robbins faced dismissal after Keir Starmer discovered that he had not disclosed Mandelson’s vetting failure for the US Ambassador role.
During the hearing, Robbins clarified that there was no official requirement for Mandelson to undergo vetting based on the documents submitted.
Starmer revealed to the House of Commons that he was intentionally kept unaware of Mandelson’s failed vetting process by officials.
