“UK Set to Sizzle with Temperatures Soaring to 26C”

Date:

Weather forecasts indicate that temperatures may reach as high as 26C in certain areas of the UK.

Recent data suggests that approximately 74 regions spanning across England, Scotland, and Wales are expected to experience temperatures climbing to or exceeding 20C in early May. Northern Ireland is anticipated to reach a high of 19C.

Based on the GFS weather model, temperatures are set to rise starting on May 4, with projections reaching 21C and 22C in extensive areas of southern and central England. In North Wales, temperatures could peak at 21C by around 6pm.

The temperature is expected to increase steadily throughout the week, with the south-east likely to hit 24C on May 5, making London the hotspot. Some regions in Scotland may see 20C around 6pm, while Wales could experience highs of 23C.

According to the GFS model data, May 6 is predicted to be the warmest day, with temperatures soaring to 26C in and around London. The Midlands, Yorkshire, and East Anglia could also expect highs of 24C or 25C. Conversely, Northern Ireland and Scotland are likely to have cooler temperatures.

The maps indicate that a total of 74 counties or county boroughs may witness temperatures of 20C or higher over this three-day period, with the south-east of England experiencing the most scorching weather.

Despite the rising temperatures, this warm spell at the beginning of May is not expected to meet the criteria for an official heatwave. A heatwave is officially declared when temperatures meet or surpass the heatwave threshold for three consecutive days.

The heatwave threshold varies between 25C and 28C across the UK, with the threshold at 28C in the warmer south-east of England and decreasing to 25C as you move northwards.
