Tributes are being honored for a six-year-old boy who tragically passed away after being struck by a car in Cheshire. The driver involved has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
The incident occurred on Anchor Drive in Ellesmere Port when the child was hit by a black Infiniti FX30D around 11:40 am on Sunday, according to Cheshire Police. The boy and his family were met by police and paramedics en route to the hospital near Whitby Sports and Social Club. Despite efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at the Countess of Chester Hospital. The family has been notified, and they are receiving support from specialized officers.
A 48-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug driving, and driving without a proper license. He has been released on bail pending further investigation.
The young boy, identified as Kanan-Jay in a tribute on the fundraising platform JustGiving, has garnered over £9,000 in donations to assist the family with funeral arrangements. Floral tributes and heartfelt messages like “Rest in peace little man. Forever 6” and “Among the angels now. Goodbye little man” have been left at the scene on Anchor Drive.
Following the tragic event, local residents noted a significant police presence, with cordons in place for several hours, as reported by the Liverpool Echo. Cheshire Police is urging anyone who witnessed the collision or has footage of the incident to come forward.
Det Sgt Iain Condliffe expressed sorrow over the loss of the child and emphasized the need to determine the sequence of events. He urged witnesses of the collision on Anchor Drive or those with video evidence to contact the authorities. Additionally, individuals present during the child’s treatment near Whitby Sports and Social Club are encouraged to provide information to aid the investigation.
