“Rolf Harris’s Infamous Residence Sold Near Thames River”

Date:

The decaying residence of the late shamed television personality Rolf Harris has been recently purchased. The property, located by the Thames River, was the site where certain criminal acts were committed by Harris, as referenced in his legal case. Despite being listed for £1.95 million, the house did not meet its minimum price at an auction last month. Bidding commenced at £1.4 million but stalled at £1,540,000, failing to reach the reserve price. Although the bid of £1,540,000 was close to the guide price, it failed to attract further interest.

An online listing now confirms that the property was sold post-auction on March 26, 2026, for an undisclosed sum. Harris and his wife Alwen purchased the residence in 1980, but it fell into disrepair following Harris’s passing from neck cancer in May 2023. His wife, Alwen, who supported him during his legal proceedings, passed away the subsequent year.

Harris’s daughter, Bindi, inherited the estate, including the property and a majority of the £16 million fortune. Upon the sale of the house in Bray, Berkshire, it was revealed that there were no outstanding mortgages to be settled. The property, known as Highlands Cottage, also includes fishing rights, allowing access to the River Thames for fishing activities.

The house boasts four bedrooms, a spacious master bedroom, several balconies with river views, and a total area of 6440 square feet. Harris, a prominent figure in television and art since the 1960s until his arrest, was sentenced to over five years in prison in July 2014. Convicted of twelve indecent assaults against four young girls, some of the offenses occurred at the Bray residence between 1968 and 1986.

During his incarceration at Bullingdon jail near Oxford, Harris earned the moniker “Willy Wonka” for distributing chocolate bars to fellow inmates during games of dominoes. Additionally, he was known to give out autographed pictures.
