A male individual has been taken into custody on suspicion of homicide following the death of a respected father and grandfather at a residence in Wales. Nicholas ‘Brian’ Parfitt, a resident of Trevethin, described by his family as highly esteemed in the local community, passed away on Bythway Road in Trevethin, Torfaen, just before 5 pm on Thursday.
Gwent Police responded to the scene following reports of a man with severe injuries. Unfortunately, Mr. Parfitt, aged 74, was pronounced deceased at the location. A 37-year-old male from Cwmbran has been apprehended in connection with the incident.
In a statement honoring Mr. Parfitt, his family expressed their shock at his sudden passing, emphasizing his role as a beloved father and grandfather who held a special place in the community’s heart.
On April 24, the investigating law enforcement agency confirmed that they had reached out to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and would be making a standard referral following the incident.
Authorities cautioned against speculating on the circumstances of the incident and urged individuals with relevant information to come forward directly. Detective Chief Inspector Neil Blyth, the lead investigator, assured the community of Trevethin that every effort is being made to ascertain the details surrounding the death, emphasizing that the arrested individual was acquainted with the victim and that there is no ongoing search for additional suspects.
