Britain is about to experience a brief interruption in its warm weather as rain is expected to make an appearance, according to the Met Office. While many parts of the UK are currently enjoying dry and settled conditions, the weather is predicted to become more changeable, bringing an increased likelihood of showers, prolonged periods of rain, and occasional strong winds.
The Met Office’s long-range forecast for May 1 to May 10 indicates a shift towards a more variable weather pattern, with sunny and dry intervals becoming interspersed with passing showers. Additionally, some regions may experience early morning fog.
Temperatures are anticipated to remain near or slightly above the seasonal average during this period, with a further increase expected as June approaches. The forecast suggests that occasional dry spells with warm sunshine will persist, along with a risk of brief morning fog patches.
As mid-May approaches, the Met Office warns of showers or longer spells of rain, potentially heavy in some areas and accompanied by strong winds. Prior to the temperature rise expected by Wednesday, this week will witness a colder and unsettled spell affecting parts of the UK.
The latest forecast from the Met Office indicates that showers will sweep across much of the country on Monday, with heavy rainfall anticipated, particularly in Scotland and Northern Ireland, along with the possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds. Clear skies are projected to cause a sharp drop in temperatures, with rural areas at risk of reaching around 0°C, potentially leading to localized frost.
The unsettled conditions are likely to persist into Tuesday, characterized by cloud cover, drizzle, and scattered rain across the UK, accompanied by a brisk northeasterly wind. Eastern regions, in particular, are expected to experience cooler temperatures compared to recent days.
However, conditions are forecasted to stabilize later in the week as high pressure gradually returns.
