A tragic incident unfolded during a family outing to the beach as a one-year-old boy was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver. The heartbreaking accident occurred in Playa Del Ray, Los Angeles, when Baby Roger Sandoval Farias, along with his mother and uncle, was hit by a Jeep Cherokee while returning home from the beach. Despite efforts by witnesses to revive Roger on the scene, their attempts were unsuccessful.
Nicole Farias, Roger’s mother, expressed her anguish, stating, “I shouldn’t be burying my son. I wanted to see him walk, you know?” She was heard desperately trying to resuscitate Roger, saying, “He’s still warm, he’s still warm.”
Eyewitness Cory Cooper described the scene as he and others rushed to help, mentioning, “We held the baby and we tried to give the baby CPR for as long as we could, as best as we could until the ambulance arrived.” Tragically, Roger’s uncle, Oswaldo Sandoval Amaya, aged 25, also lost his life in the incident.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the driver of the Jeep Cherokee abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled without stopping to offer aid as required by law. The press release further stated that one occupant of another vehicle involved in the crash was pronounced deceased on-site, while the remaining passengers were taken to a local hospital, with one later succumbing to injuries and another in critical condition.
Roger’s grandmother initiated a fundraising effort to support the family during this challenging time, describing Roger as a joyful child who brought happiness to everyone around him. The fundraising page aims to gather funds for Roger’s funeral and memorial services to honor his life fittingly.
