During the latest episode of the Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV, he introduced the “ASAB” rule for travel insurance, advising travelers to buy a policy “As Soon As you Buy” to ensure coverage from the moment of booking until departure. Stressing the need for proactive insurance, he explained that half of the coverage purchased is intended for any unforeseen events before the trip commences.
Lewis shared a cautionary tale of a holidaymaker who avoided a hefty £5,000 expense by promptly obtaining travel insurance after booking a trip to Australia. He encouraged viewers to follow suit and secure insurance immediately to safeguard against unexpected circumstances. For single trip policies, he recommended obtaining insurance that aligns with the specific travel dates, while for annual policies, he advised careful consideration based on the existing coverage duration.
While acknowledging that the “ASAB” approach is a prudent choice, Lewis also warned that certain insurance providers might cancel policies in case of severe diagnoses.
