A woman lying in a hospital bed was apprehended for murder after slashing her sister’s throat and leaving the body for her own daughter to discover. The Metropolitan Police released a video showing a female officer informing Nancy Pexton of her arrest for the killing of her sister, Jennifer Abbott, aged 69. Pexton, 70, was convicted of the crime for cutting Jennifer’s throat, placing adhesive tape over her mouth, and abandoning her lifeless body in her Camden apartment.
Concerned about Jennifer, Pexton sent her daughter to check on her, leading to the discovery of the deceased aunt. Pexton had fatally stabbed Jennifer in the kitchen during a visit before moving the body to the living room, covering it with a sheet and taping the mouth shut. After leaving the scene, Pexton contacted her doctor claiming an overdose, leading to her hospitalization.
Despite denying the murder charge, Pexton, who was younger than her sister by nine months, was found guilty by a jury at the Old Bailey following a brief deliberation period. She appeared distressed during the court proceedings, connecting remotely from HMP Bronzefield. The prosecutor highlighted the severity of the crime, emphasizing Pexton’s emotional state and dishonesty in handling the situation.
Pexton opted not to testify during the trial. Her criminal record included multiple convictions for various offenses, such as driving violations and failure to comply with legal orders. The defendant, residing in Marylebone, was ultimately convicted of the murder despite her denial of the charges.
