Over 1,200 residences in Plymouth have been evacuated due to the discovery of an unexploded World War Two bomb. The evacuation was prompted after a German SC250, a 250kg air-dropped bomb, was found at a construction site on Flamborough Road in Southway around 2:30 pm on Wednesday. To ensure safety, a 400m cordon has been set up in the area.
The Royal Navy bomb disposal experts are actively working to render the bomb safe, with ongoing assessments and precautionary measures in place. Several local schools, including Oakwood Primary School, Little Acorns Pre-School, and Beechwood Primary School, were closed as a safety measure.
Residents have been advised by the Plymouth City Council and the Royal Navy not to re-enter the evacuated area until further notice.
