Following the wrap-up of their whirlwind journey on Thursday evening, King Charles departed for Bermuda for further royal duties, while Queen Camilla returned to the UK. Observers were taken aback as the Queen walked casually through an airport terminal with her security detail flanking her.
Queen Camilla was spotted in the Washington Dulles International Airport lounge on Thursday, still clad in the blue attire she wore for the official farewell to the US President and First Lady earlier that day before heading back to the UK.
A bystander captured a video of the Queen passing by and shared it on Instagram with the caption: “Just the Queen casually walking past me at the airport.” The post garnered numerous comments praising her composed and relaxed demeanor during the departure.
In contrast to Queen Camilla’s low-key exit, King Charles arrived at Joint Base Andrews military base in Maryland via Donald Trump’s helicopter, receiving an honor guard upon arrival.
Chief of Protocol at the US Ambassador Monica Crowley and UK Ambassador Christian Turner bid farewell to King Charles, who was given a full honor cordon by the armed forces, a red carpet, and musical accompaniment by the US Airforce Band as he waved from the aircraft steps before concluding his visit to the US.
During the state visit, Queen Camilla also received compliments, with President Trump praising her outside the White House as the royal couple departed.
