Authorities are currently investigating an incident where a commercial aircraft struck a light pole upon landing. The incident involved a United Airlines passenger jet arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday. The Boeing 767 aircraft, designated as United Airlines Flight 169, safely landed after a flight from Venice, Italy, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
United Airlines confirmed that during the final approach to Newark, the aircraft made contact with a light pole but managed to land safely without any injuries to passengers or crew. The airline’s maintenance team is assessing the extent of the aircraft’s damage.
As part of a comprehensive flight safety inquiry, the crew members have been temporarily relieved from duty. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has initiated an investigation into the incident. An NTSB investigator will be dispatched to Newark, and United Airlines has been instructed to provide the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder for analysis.
A preliminary report on the incident is anticipated to be released within 30 days.
