A father of six who was wounded in the reported Golders Green terror incident has made a remarkable recovery and has been released from the hospital. Shloime Rand, aged 34, welcomed the Mirror into his residence in north London to discuss the recent 48 hours of his life. Seated at his dining table, he shared that doctors informed him that if the injury had been slightly closer to his heart, he might not have survived. Fortunately, he only needed four stitches and will not need to revisit the hospital for two weeks. Remaining composed, he described the incident as a miracle, while his wife emphasized its severity.
During the conversation, two of his children, among his six, listened attentively and comforted him with hugs. Shloime mentioned that it was his first time in Golders Green in two months. He, a mortgage broker, has children aged 13, 11, nine, seven, four, and two.
Recalling the arrival of paramedics, he expressed his concern when they appeared alarmed about his condition. The presence of a helicopter heightened the tension. In the ambulance, medical staff conducted tests promptly, and upon reaching the hospital, they indicated that his condition was not as critical as initially feared. He received an x-ray, CT scan, and four stitches on his chest.
Reflecting on the incident, Shloime highlighted the importance of gratitude and expressed concerns about anti-Semitism in the community and negative perceptions surrounding various issues.
He declined a visit from Sir Keir Starmer and mentioned his upcoming hospital check-up in two weeks. Shloime emphasized the need for action against anti-Semitism instead of mere symbolic gestures from politicians.
Rabbi Levi Schapiro, who leads the Jewish Community Council in Stamford Hill, visited Shloime in the hospital post-incident. He recounted a heartbreaking incident where Shloime’s eldest son, unaware of his father’s hospitalization, was questioned by classmates about his father’s well-being, causing distress.
