“Firefighters Extinguish Blaze at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral”

Date:

Firefighters successfully extinguished a fire at the largest cathedral in Britain, Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, located on St James’ Mount. The incident, identified as an “electrical fire” on the top-floor balcony, led to the evacuation of the building. The cathedral remained closed for the day, with plans to reopen fully on Saturday, except for the tower which will remain shut.

Visitors Carol and Liz, who were at the cathedral’s café, were evacuated by staff due to the fire, with Liz expressing surprise at the incident. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the situation was under control by 5.15pm, with firefighters leaving the scene after ensuring all safety measures were in place.

The cathedral management expressed regret over the disruption caused and thanked the fire service for their prompt response. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, with the cathedral expected to resume normal operations the following day.

Tourists visiting the cathedral were disappointed by the closure but expressed hope that the damages were minimal. The cathedral, offering a viewing platform with panoramic city views, remains a popular tourist destination.

Authorities continue to work on making the area safe, and visitors are advised to avoid the cathedral surroundings. The incident, which started in the afternoon, was quickly addressed by fire crews, preventing any significant damage to the historic site.
