A tragic incident occurred in a city in south-east Brazil as a small plane crashed into a building, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuring three others. The crash took place in Belo Horizonte, the capital city of Minas Gerais state, where the pilot and co-pilot lost their lives, and three passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to João XXIII Hospital, according to local authorities.
The single-engine aircraft departed from Pampulha Airport in Belo Horizonte and tragically collided with a residential building in the Silveira neighborhood shortly after take-off. Witnesses in the vicinity expressed shock at the low altitude at which the plane was flying before the crash. Eyewitness Fabiana Parreiras recounted hearing the aircraft flying unusually close to the ground and quickly realized a tragic event was about to unfold.
Reports indicate that the pilot had communicated difficulties to the control tower at Pampulha Airport during take-off. The aircraft involved was identified as an EMB-721C model, manufactured in 1979, according to information from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency.
Following the incident, investigative teams from the Brazilian Air Force and the Civil Police of Minas Gerais have been deployed to ascertain the cause of the crash and gather relevant information.
