“Lidl Introduces Points-based Loyalty Program Revamp”

Date:

Lidl has introduced a significant revamp to its loyalty program, allowing customers to accumulate points based on their spending. Users of Lidl Plus will now earn one point for each pound spent in-store. These points can later be exchanged for vouchers for complimentary items or discounts on purchases.

For instance, a quick check on the Lidl Plus app today revealed that 100 points could fetch you a free cucumber, plain tortilla wraps, or houmous. With 200 points, users can redeem a free halloumi or Greek yoghurt, while 300 points can be exchanged for a £3 discount on the next shopping trip, and 500 points for £5 off.

The new points system, valid for two years, replaces the previous rewards based on monthly spending thresholds. Under the old scheme, customers received a free bakery treat after spending £10, a fresh vegetable after £50, and a 10% discount on the next purchase after reaching £250.

In addition to points, Lidl Plus still offers personalized discount coupons on selected products. To redeem points, users need to access the Rewards Marketplace section on the Lidl Plus app to select their desired reward.

Lidl stated that the updated system provides more flexibility to shoppers, although some rewards may require higher spending thresholds compared to the previous scheme. As an example, currently, Lidl Plus offers a free brownie in exchange for 90 points, equivalent to a £90 expenditure.

According to a Lidl spokesperson cited in The Grocer, users often earn more than one point per pound spent due to various promotions such as Rewards of the Week, double points, triple points, or free points on specific products.

Louise Weise, Lidl’s chief customer officer, highlighted that the new loyalty scheme aims to offer customers greater control over their rewards and spending choices, catering to individual preferences and needs.

To kick off the revamped loyalty program, all Lidl Plus app users receive 100 free points. Additionally, they will earn double points for any fruit purchases made until May 22.
