An individual carrying a weapon was apprehended following an incident where Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was reportedly threatened by a person wearing a balaclava near his new residence on the King’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
The alleged suspect approached the former prince while he was walking his dogs around 7:30 pm last night. The man emerged from a vehicle and shouted, leading Mountbatten-Windsor and a member of his security team to quickly retreat to their nearby car. Norfolk Police confirmed the arrest of a man for possessing an offensive weapon.
Mountbatten-Windsor lost his state-funded police protection in early 2022 when his royal title, His Royal Highness HRH, was revoked. The suspect then pursued them as they drove away, and law enforcement intervened, apprehending the individual on-site for further interrogation.
Authorities clarified that the incident is not linked to terrorism, mentioning that the suspect may be fixated on Mountbatten-Windsor. The individual had reportedly approached Mr. Mountbatten-Windsor near his temporary lodging at Marsh Farm, which is currently under renovation for his permanent residence.
Witness statements, including those from the former Duke of York and his security officer, were recorded. Norfolk Police confirmed responding to a report of intimidating behavior in Wolferton, resulting in the arrest of a man for a public order offense and possession of an offensive weapon. The individual is in police custody for questioning.
Mountbatten-Windsor lost his state-funded police protection after being stripped of his royal title in 2022 during a legal dispute with Virginia Giuffre, where he settled without admitting guilt. His military titles and royal patronages were subsequently reinstated to Queen Elizabeth.
Following his withdrawal from public duties, Westminster Security noted that Andrew was no longer eligible for royal protection by the UK’s Royalty and Specialist Protection RASP in 2022. His former residence near Windsor Castle was heavily guarded, contrasting with Sandringham, where security measures implemented by Charles safeguard him on the private estate inherited from the late Queen.
Flight restrictions were imposed over the area at the request of security services after drones were sighted flying over the estate during a visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was hosted by the King.
