A passenger’s sudden death onboard a flight to Mexico prompted an emergency landing. María Yolanda Guerrero Medina, 72, from Morelia, tragically passed away after falling ill less than two hours into the Volaris flight. The plane, which departed from Chicago Midway International Airport, was originally bound for Mexico’s General Francisco Mujica International Airport but had to be diverted.
Medina, who had a history of kidney failure and diabetes for 12 years, experienced a rapid decline during flight 7771. Other passengers alerted the crew to her condition, leading to the captain requesting an emergency landing. The aircraft landed at Monterrey International Airport, where medical and security personnel met the patient. Sadly, emergency services confirmed that Medina had passed away, with initial indications pointing to natural causes.
Following the incident, the remaining passengers continued their journey on a different plane to their destination. This occurrence follows a recent incident where a 51-year-old man died during a Cathay Pacific flight from Manchester to Hong Kong. The passenger, identified as Mr. Chen, fell ill on flight CX216, originating from Manchester Airport and landing at Hong Kong International Airport the next morning. Reports revealed that Mr. Chen, an insurance broker battling cancer, frequently traveled between Hong Kong and the UK for medical purposes and business.
