A tragic incident has resulted in the death of a woman due to severe blunt force trauma sustained while on vacation in Jamaica. Shockingly, her family was informed of the tragedy by the alleged murderer’s mother over a phone call.
The victim’s relatives in New York were notified of Melissa Kerry Samnath’s death by an individual who contacted them via telephone. Prior to this, they had received a distressing text message from Samnath on the night of her arrival in Jamaica, requesting them to contact the authorities as she indicated her location at a pink house. This message, sent just before her 37th birthday, was the last communication her family had with her.
Following a formal identification by her niece last Wednesday, a post-mortem examination revealed that Samnath had suffered fatal blunt-force trauma to her head. The Jamaica Constabulary Force reported that she passed away shortly after being dropped off at Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James on April 29.
Describing her aunt as an exceptionally caring individual, Samnath’s niece, identified as Janice Wynter, expressed disbelief at the tragic event. She highlighted Samnath’s loving and supportive nature within the family, emphasizing the difficulty they face in comprehending the senseless act of violence against her.
Investigators suspect that Samnath had established contact with her alleged murderer online before traveling to Jamaica to celebrate her birthday. The suspect’s residence in Norwood, St James, was located by authorities, but he had already fled the area. Despite neighbors reporting no signs of distress on the night of the incident, significant bloodstains and Samnath’s belongings were found in the suspect’s residence.
CCTV footage captured the suspect transporting Samnath’s luggage while she followed from her Airbnb accommodation. Wynter expressed anger at the callousness of the alleged murderer, who reportedly informed his mother of the crime, but failed to take Samnath inside the hospital after dropping her off.
A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to support the funeral expenses, honoring Samnath as a strong, loving woman who brought warmth to those around her. Her family mourns her loss, emphasizing the profound impact she had on their lives.
