His mother, Melanie, led him into a life off the grid, instructing him to discard his passport, forcing him to move constantly, and yearning for the familiarity of home life. Alex, now 20, has opened up about the darkest moments of his abduction, including being made to live in a tent while his mother enjoyed the comfort of a caravan nearby.
In a BBC documentary titled “Kidnapped By My Mum,” Alex revisits the locations in Spain and France where he was held captive, raising questions about why no one intervened. The ordeal began in 2014 when his mother and grandfather took him to live in Morocco for six months before returning due to financial constraints. Subsequently, Alex stayed with his grandmother until the 2017 abduction incident.
During his time on the run, Alex had to adapt to an unconventional lifestyle, facing challenges like food scarcity and living in a tent during harsh weather conditions. Despite his struggles, he sought education and normalcy, leading to pivotal moments where he expressed his desire for learning and eventually reaching out for help.
