“Black Cab Rapist John Worboys Denied Parole Again”

Date:

John Worboys, also known as John Radford, the notorious black cab rapist, has been denied parole for the second time, as confirmed by Carrie Johnson, who disclosed her identity as a victim during his previous parole hearing.

Worboys, now 68 years old, was initially sentenced in 2009 for committing 19 sexual offenses against 12 women from 2006 to 2008. He was given an indefinite prison term with a minimum of eight years for the safety of the public.

Carrie Johnson, wife of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, shared the Parole Board’s decision on Thursday, stating that Worboys would not be released or moved to open conditions following the hearing.

Ms. Johnson, formerly Carrie Symonds, recounted her own encounter with Worboys in 2007 when she was 19. Worboys offered her a ride home in his cab after a night out, drugged her with spiked champagne, and coerced her to drink vodka, leaving her with uncertain memories of the incident.

In 2018, the Parole Board had initially approved Worboys’ release after a decade in prison, prompting Ms. Johnson to reveal her identity and lead a significant campaign against his release. However, the decision was later overturned due to identified risk factors related to Worboys’ behavior and beliefs.

In December 2019, Worboys was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of six years for drugging four women in London. Authorities suspect he may have victimized over 100 women during his criminal activities.
